Soldiers are the barebones unit of any deck. They are cheap, well rounded, and you get a fair amount of them.

Archers are the most well rounded ranged unit, though they lack counterattack. At only 3 range, they are mediocre at best, but only cost 4 for 2, so they are easy to grab while saving up for a better unit.

Cavalry are well rounded sidewinding units. As such they are able to take single steps sideways in order to avoid retaliation on the opponents turn, and are able to approach archers easily. Their versatility makes them great at defending your own wall, or breaking through the opponent's wall.

Cavalry Archers are pretty much Cavalry with the attack, range, and counterattack of an archer. This essentially makes them more mobile archers, giving them the advantages of both, though some of the disadvantages, too. A cavalry archer trapped with 2 units on top of it, and one unit in front of it can end up dying fairly quickly as it lacks counterattack, or much normal attack for that matter. It is best to leave space between them and your opponent so you can shoot at them without counter, then step into a different row to avoid any damage altogether.

Mercenaries would most certainly be the most overpowered unit in the game if it wasn't for their negative regeneration. As such, even if they are not attacked once, they cannot make it across the field. However, they are cheap, you get several, and they have great stats, making them highly effective when you are on the defensive. Use carefully.

TrivaEdit

  • The Soldier and the Archer were the first 2 cards to make it in the game.
  • The Cavalry was the first unit added with Sidewind.
  • Mercenaries are the first unit to have regeneration. Regeneration was not set to a positive value until Dragonborn Knights were created.
  • Cavalry Archers are modelled slightly after Link.
  • The flag in the background of the Mercenary card can change between several others.
